Adding Special Teams Depth
Aidan Laros, an undrafted rookie free agent, joins the Steelers after a collegiate career that saw him play at the University of Kentucky, Charlotte, and the University of Tennessee at Martin. During his 2025 senior season at Kentucky, the Cape Town native averaged 44.9 yards per punt, ranking seventh in the SEC and 31st nationally. He brings additional competition to a punting room led by 34-year-old veteran Cameron Johnston, who has dealt with injury concerns in recent seasons.
Johnson’s Departure
The release of 27-year-old Brandon Johnson marks the end of his third stint with the franchise. Initially joining the Steelers in August 2024 after his tenure with the Denver Broncos, Johnson struggled to secure a permanent spot on the 53-man roster, spending significant time on the practice squad. Throughout his NFL career, Johnson has appeared in 20 games, recording 26 receptions for 355 yards and five touchdowns. According to reports from Pro Football Talk, the Steelers front office made the move to balance the roster as they continue to refine their receiving corps.
