Two Firefighters Injured in Clementi Flat Fire

A fire at an eighth-floor flat in Clementi Avenue 4 left one person dead and two Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) firefighters injured on Friday night (Jul 31). The SCDF reported that they were alerted to the blaze at Block 309 at approximately 11:10 pm.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the living room of the unit fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were forced to breach the entrance to gain access to the premises. During the interior firefighting operation, a person was discovered trapped in the kitchen. The individual was rescued and transported to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where they were later confirmed deceased. Sim Ann, MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, expressed deep sadness over the fatality and stated that authorities are providing assistance to affected residents for property damage and repairs.

Two SCDF firefighters sustained burn injuries while battling the blaze and were taken to Singapore General Hospital for treatment. According to a subsequent update from the SCDF, one of the injured firefighters has since been discharged and is recovering at home. Approximately 40 residents were evacuated from the block by police and SCDF personnel as a precautionary measure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
