TAMPA (Azat TV) – The United Soccer League (USL) has unveiled a comprehensive new brand identity built around the concept “United for Soccer,” replacing a fragmented visual system across its eight leagues as the organization prepares for major structural changes ahead of the 2028 season, according to USLSoccer.com.

The rebrand arrives as the USL coordinates a corporate transformation led by new institutional investors and strategic advisors, including BellTower Partners, whose founder Kewsong Lee serves as co-chair. The organization is shifting toward a disciplined expansion model, selective club ownership vetting, and a recently announced revenue-sharing framework designed to distribute a portion of national earnings directly to participating clubs. Executives note that signaling stability and strategic cohesion to investors is a primary objective of the visual overhaul.

A Unified Visual System and the Road to 2028

Developed in collaboration with Tampa-based creative agency Spark, according to reporting by Sports Business Journal, the updated design retires disparate color schemes and symbols that previously distinguished individual divisions. Since 2019, the men’s divisions utilized distinct palettes—such as a gold star for the USL Championship and turquoise and red numerals for USL League One and League Two. The new framework introduces a uniform USL Blue across the ecosystem, paired with goal-net-inspired league marks that connect the organization’s professional, pre-professional, and youth competitions under a single recognizable family.

At the center of the redesign is an updated USL wordmark featuring a stylized “S” with an upward stair-step geometry. According to USL leadership, the element symbolizes progress, opportunity, and the vertical pathways established for players and clubs moving through the pyramid. The emblem for the professional women’s league, the Gainbridge Super League, maintains its entitlement sponsor arrow while adopting the broader structural geometry of the refreshed league marks.

Structuring the Future Pyramid

The visual overhaul serves as a public-facing milestone for the organization’s structural evolution, headlined by the 2028 launch of USL Premier as the top tier of men’s professional competition. Beginning in 2028, USL Premier, the USL Championship, and USL League One will operate within a three-tier promotion-and-relegation structure, allowing clubs to advance or descend divisions based entirely on on-field performance.

“Before we used to have different colors and different symbols, and I think all of that would just be confusing,” said Paul McDonough, President and CEO of the United Soccer League. “And now people will know that, ‘OK, this is all part of the USL soccer ecosystem.’” McDonough added that the overhaul functions as a strategic signal to stakeholders and investors, demonstrating long-term operational discipline across a footprint spanning more than 200 communities in 45 states.

Valerie Panou, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the USL, noted that internal research emphasized the necessity of consolidating the organization’s narrative. While the USL has expanded significantly across professional and amateur tiers, distinct visual identities previously obscured the scale of the national network. The newly unified branding will roll out across league channels and properties through 2027, accompanied by additional creative assets and storytelling initiatives.
