US Vice President JD Vance has publicly endorsed Vivek Ramaswamy in his campaign for the governorship of Ohio, describing the entrepreneur as a “great friend” and a future leader for the state. Vance’s remarks, delivered at a rally in Ohio this past Friday, consolidate support for Ramaswamy ahead of the November general election.

Ramaswamy, 41, secured the Republican nomination in May with the backing of President Donald Trump. His path to the general election follows his previous role as a co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and an unsuccessful bid for the 2024 presidential nomination, after which he aligned himself with the Trump campaign.

Born in Cincinnati, Ramaswamy is a graduate of Harvard University and Yale Law School. Before entering politics, he founded the biotechnology firm Roivant Sciences, serving as its CEO from 2014 until 2021. His gubernatorial campaign has faced internal challenges, including a notable incident at the Young Americans for Liberty conference in Cincinnati where he was heckled by attendees following a speech.

Vance’s endorsement is seen as a strategic move to unify the state’s Republican base. Addressing the crowd at the rally, Vance emphasized the importance of voter turnout, stating that Ramaswamy’s candidacy represents a strong choice for the state’s future. The upcoming November election will determine if Ramaswamy can convert his primary victory into a successful gubernatorial term.
