The loss drops Detroit to a 60-63 record, leaving them tied with the Minnesota Twins in second place, while Chicago improves to 64-58.
Early Exchanges and Missed Opportunities
The game began with immediate offensive action from both sides. In the top of the first inning, Chicago’s Braden Montgomery opened the scoring with an RBI single. However, Detroit responded quickly in the bottom half of the frame when Eduardo Valencia drove in a run with a single of his own to tie the score at 1-1.

Chicago’s bullpen then shut down any hopes of a Detroit comeback. Jordan Hicks (2-1) earned the victory with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, stabilizing the game after the Tigers’ fifth-inning rally. Left-hander Bryan Hudson took the mound in the ninth, retiring the Tigers in order to secure his fifth save of the season.
