French tennis player Arthur Fils secured a milestone victory at the Cincinnati Open on Saturday, defeating Italy’s Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-4 to reach his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 final. The 22-year-old Frenchman, seeded 21st, overcame a challenging start and a weather-related delay to dispatch his opponent in just 67 minutes.

The match, held in Mason, Ohio, saw Fils concede an early break in the third game of the opening set. However, a 45-minute rain and lightning delay during the warm-up provided a reset for the Frenchman. Upon returning to the court, Fils regained his rhythm, winning the final three games of the first set. He maintained his momentum in the second set, securing an immediate break and holding serve comfortably throughout the remainder of the match.

Fils, who now holds a 3-0 head-to-head record against Cobolli, showcased dominant serving, winning 81.8 percent of his first-serve points. This victory propels him to No. 11 in the live ATP rankings, continuing a strong season that now stands at 31-10. Fils joins Czech player Jakub Mensik as one of the few players born in 2004 or later to reach a Masters 1000 final.

Despite the loss, Flavio Cobolli achieved a significant career milestone, as he is projected to reach a career-high ranking of No. 6 when the official updates are published on Monday. Fils is now set to face the winner of the semifinal match between Americans Frances Tiafoe and Brandon Nakashima in Sunday’s final.
