CD Projekt Red has officially launched The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, a substantial update that brings significant technical and gameplay overhauls to the decade-old RPG. The update, which arrives on September 29, 2026, functions as a free download for existing owners across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2, according to IGN.
The developer noted that this release represents the most extensive set of changes ever introduced to the title at once. The update, requiring approximately 45GB of storage space, focuses on four primary pillars: visual fidelity, combat mechanics, quality-of-life adjustments, and miscellaneous accessibility features, as reported by PC Gamer.
Technical Benchmarks and Platform Specifics
The visual overhaul is perhaps the most prominent feature, with PC users gaining access to exclusive Path Tracing technology. PlayStation 5 Pro owners benefit from PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which the developer claims enables a smooth 60 frames per second even with ray tracing enabled. The Nintendo Switch 2 version introduces dedicated support for motion controls, allowing players to cast signs, aim the crossbow, and interact with the environment via the console’s gyro and touchscreen capabilities.
Gameplay Overhauls
Beyond technical performance, CD Projekt Red has fundamentally altered the core gameplay loop. The skill tree has been completely rebuilt to offer greater flexibility for character builds. Combat is described as more kinetic, featuring revamped animations and new finishers. Perhaps most notably for long-term fans, the update introduces a transmogrification system, allowing players to adjust the appearance of their gear without sacrificing stat advantages. The addition of “Bard’s Ballad,” an accessibility suite, further demonstrates the developer’s focus on accommodating a broader player base through features like automatic self-healing.
