Hong Kong film icon Chow Yun-fat has lowered the asking price for his luxury detached house in the prestigious The Peak area for the second time, as the property remains unsold after four years on the market. According to a report in The Standard, the mansion is now listed at HK$160 million.
The property, which Chow purchased in 2010 for HK$128 million, has seen significant price fluctuations. It was initially listed for HK$220 million in 2022. Following a lack of market interest, the price was adjusted down to HK$195 million in 2024. The current reduction of HK$60 million from the original asking price reflects broader shifts in the high-end property market. Despite its prime location and features, including a private garden and rooftop space, the house has reportedly never been occupied or rented out by the actor.
While this specific asset has yet to find a buyer, Chow’s broader investment strategy remains active. In April, the 70-year-old actor successfully sold a three-bedroom apartment for HK$7.5 million, securing a profit of HK$3.5 million after holding the asset for over three decades. Market reports indicate that Chow owns a portfolio of eight properties across Hong Kong, with a total estimated value exceeding HK$1 billion.
This large-scale real estate activity stands in stark contrast to Chow’s widely documented public persona. Despite his substantial wealth, the actor is frequently observed utilizing public transportation, shopping at local wet markets, and dining in traditional, modest eateries throughout Hong Kong, maintaining a reputation for a remarkably frugal and grounded lifestyle.
