Blizzard Entertainment has announced major updates for Diablo 4’s upcoming Season 8, titled “”Belial’s Return.”” Scheduled to launch on April 29, 618, at 10 a.m. PDT, this season introduces a reworked battle pass system, new gameplay mechanics, and an engaging storyline centered around Belial, the Lord of Lies.

Revamped Battle Pass: Introducing Reliquaries

The traditional battle pass system has been replaced with a more flexible and player-focused system called “”Reliquaries.”” This new system categorizes rewards into thematic groups, allowing players to prioritize the rewards they find most appealing. Reliquaries are divided into two main types:

• Battle Pass Reliquaries: These include four categories—Belial’s Return, Weapons, Beasts, and Armor. The Belial’s Return Reliquary is free and includes items like a Town Portal cosmetic, weapon cosmetics, mount cosmetics, and Platinum. The other three are premium options available for purchase with Platinum.
• Event Reliquaries: These are tied to specific milestone events or collaborations and are available for a limited time.

Players can unlock rewards in any order using a new in-game currency called Favor Tokens, which are earned by slaying monsters and completing quests. Fully completing a Reliquary grants a bonus reward, such as pieces of the “”Guise of the Deceiver”” armor set.

New Boss Powers: Enhancing Gameplay

Season 8 introduces 24 new Boss Powers, special abilities that players can acquire by defeating bosses across Sanctuary. These powers are divided into two components:

• Main Effect: Alters core gameplay mechanics, such as dealing additional damage or enhancing specific skills.
• Modifier Effect: Provides synergy with the Main Effect, further enhancing its impact.

Players can equip one Main Boss Power and up to three Modifier Boss Powers at a time, allowing for extensive customization of character builds. Boss Powers are obtained by defeating specific bosses, including World Bosses, Apparition Incursion event bosses, and even Lilith herself.

Belial’s Return: The Season 8 Storyline

The narrative for Season 8 revolves around Belial, the Lord of Lies, who has unleashed mysterious Apparition Monsters across Sanctuary. Players will team up with two new characters, Sayeena, a retired Vizjerei mage, and Jarius, a self-proclaimed knight of the Cathedral of Light, to uncover Belial’s true motives and thwart his plans.

To begin the questline, players must speak to the Stranger located in Kyovashad’s city center. Access to the seasonal content requires completing the base game campaign and creating a new character in the Seasonal Realm.

How to Prepare for Season 8

Players are encouraged to complete the base campaign and familiarize themselves with the new Reliquaries system. Additionally, those with unspent Battle Pass Tokens will have them automatically converted to equivalent items under the new system between April 25 and April 27, 2023.
