Streak Ends at Dodger Stadium
The Los Angeles Dodgers saw their 11-game home winning streak come to a sudden halt on Wednesday night, falling 5-1 to the San Diego Padres. Despite a strong start from Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Dodgers’ offense struggled to capitalize on opportunities, leaving the team two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the top seed in the National League playoff picture, according to True Blue LA.
Yamamoto, who finished his regular season with a 2.53 ERA and 182 strikeouts, allowed four runs over six innings—the first time this month he failed to pitch at least seven innings. Manny Machado provided the decisive blow for San Diego, launching a two-run home run in the fourth inning and adding a sacrifice fly in the fifth to account for three of the Padres’ five runs.
Offensive Struggles and Missed Chances
The Dodgers’ offense, while active, failed to convert key situations. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded and two outs, Shohei Ohtani struck out against Padres reliever David Morgan on a 99-mph fastball. Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages both recorded three-hit nights, but the team’s inability to drive in runners left them with only a single run, scored on a Tommy Edman sacrifice fly.
As the regular season nears its conclusion, the Dodgers remain four games ahead of the Atlanta Braves for a first-round bye, with their magic number to secure that spot currently at one. The team looks to regroup for their final home game of the regular season on Thursday before traveling to San Francisco.
