Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., has offered to hold a meeting with constituent Jennifer Bos following her public testimony during the confirmation hearing for acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Bos, whose daughter Megan was found deceased in 2025, appeared before the committee to advocate for stricter immigration enforcement and to voice support for Blanche’s nomination.

During the hearing, Bos told lawmakers, including Durbin, that families of victims affected by crimes involving illegal immigrants have felt “completely ignored” by officials. Bos noted that despite repeated efforts to engage with legislators on immigration policy, this hearing marked her first direct exchange with the Illinois senator.

“I haven’t spoken with them. He spoke to me,” Bos stated during an exchange with Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., regarding the difficulty of securing meetings with representatives. Following the testimony, Durbin directly addressed Bos, offering to meet with her immediately after the hearing concluded. “I didn’t know it was a hardship for you to make this journey here, testify, from Illinois,” Durbin said. “I don’t want you to have to wait to see me.”

The confrontation occurred against the backdrop of the high-stakes confirmation process for Blanche. Bos used her testimony to highlight the case of her daughter, whose death involved a foreign national charged with concealment of a death. While local charges in Illinois were initially handled by state authorities, the suspect was later taken into federal custody by ICE. Bos urged the committee to confirm Blanche, arguing that his leadership is necessary to ensure victim advocacy and consistent law enforcement.
