Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has called on the club’s supporters to stick together and remain positive following an independent commission’s guilty verdict on more than 100 Premier League financial charges, as reported by Sky Sports.

The independent commission concluded that between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons, Manchester City arranged “sham” contracts with commercial partners as part of a disguised funding scheme that artificially inflated revenues by £830m. The club was also found to have concealed its true financial state, breached Premier League and UEFA spending limits, and failed to cooperate fully during the investigation.

Manchester City strongly rejected the findings, describing the judgment as an “opinion” containing clear material errors of law, principle, and fact, while confirming that an appeal has been launched. Despite the off-field turmoil, Haaland emphasized his personal connection to the club and its fanbase ahead of their upcoming fixture against Liverpool at Anfield.

Haaland Calls for Unity Ahead of Anfield Trip

Speaking to club media ahead of the high-profile clash, Haaland addressed the supporters directly, encouraging them to maintain a positive outlook despite the regulatory developments. “They’re going to have a good time. We have to stick together. We have to stay with each other, and we have to stay positive,” Haaland said. “No matter what happens in life, we always have to have a smile.”

The Norwegian forward, whose father Alf-Inge previously played for City, added that he considers himself a fan as well. “I care a lot about the city, I have to say. I care a lot about the fans because I’m a fan myself, and I feel with them as well.”

Manager Enzo Maresca Emphasizes Focus on the Pitch

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca also broke his silence following the verdict, insisting he remains very calm and trusts the club completely. Speaking to CityTV, the Italian manager stated that his squad is not distracted by the unfolding legal battle and remains fully concentrated on their domestic campaign.

“Personally, I’m very calm, to be honest. The club has been quite clear. We trust completely the club,” Maresca said. He noted that the team is currently sitting at the top of the league table and that the players understand their responsibility is strictly confined to the football side of operations.

Legal Challenges and Appeal Timeline

The ongoing regulatory proceedings could face extended delays. Legal experts have noted that Manchester City’s appeal might stretch into next year if the club successfully argues that newly introduced Premier League appeal rules—which mandate a 12-week resolution window—should not apply retroactively to a case initiated under older disciplinary frameworks.
