Software interface of FRCTL Audio GRNi Lite granular sampler plugin showing waveform and keyboard

Quick Read

  • FRCTL Audio launched GRNi Lite, a free simplified granular sampler plugin.
  • The software is compatible with macOS (including Apple Silicon), Windows, and Linux.
  • It features a single sample slot alongside essential SIZE and DENSITY controls.
  • The plugin has no time limits or serial activation, while the full version costs .99.
Producer-focused music technology site Synth Anatomy reports that FRCTL Audio has released GRNi Lite, a new free granular sampler plugin compatible with macOS, Linux, and Windows. Following the September launch of its paid $44.99 flagship instrument, the developer introduced this simplified tier to provide a beginner-friendly entry point into granular synthesis without licensing hurdles.

Simplified Features and Core Controls

According to Synth Anatomy, the instrument strips away most features found in the full version to focus on core sound generation. Users can drag a single audio sample onto the waveform display, define the active playback region, assign root notes, and trigger audio across a keyboard. Each sustained note generates an independent cloud of microscopic sound grains based on the underlying recording.

Synth Anatomy notes that while deep modulation and multi-layered routing are reserved for the paid software, the free plugin retains the two most critical granular parameters. The SIZE control adjusts individual grain length to shift textures between glitchy artifacts and smooth pads, while DENSITY dictates the volume of overlapping grains, scaling output from sparse crackles to dense sonic textures.

Platform Compatibility and Licensing

The software operates without time restrictions or serial number activations. Synth Anatomy confirms that the plugin supports VST3, AU, and CLAP formats, ensuring native performance on Apple Silicon Macs alongside Intel hardware, Linux distributions, and Windows environments.
