Quick Read

  • Vanessa Zhang won her second Lady Blue Hen Invitational individual title.
  • Harvard's golf team shot a tournament-best 279 on Sunday to finish second overall.
  • Freshman Rayee Feng carded a tournament-low 66 to power Harvard's final-round comeback.

Harvard women’s golf closed out its fall season over the weekend at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Delaware, where junior Vanessa Zhang captured the individual title at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational and the Crimson rallied to a second-place team finish, as The Crimson reported in an article published on Oct. 27, 2026. Competing on the Delaware course, Harvard delivered a tournament-best final round of nine-under-par 279 on Sunday to finish just five strokes behind the hosting University of Delaware. For Zhang, the victory marked another milestone in a dominant fall campaign, finishing three-under-par across three rounds to become just the third golfer in tournament history to win the event multiple times.

A Dramatic Finish and Final-Round Surge

Entering Sunday’s final round tied for the lead, Zhang navigated the closing holes without knowing her exact standing on the leaderboard. Believing she needed an additional birdie to secure the win, she maintained an aggressive approach and finished with an even-par 72, which proved sufficient to claim the individual crown by two strokes over four players tied for second place.

Meanwhile, the Crimson team overcame a sluggish start that saw them shoot an eight-over-par 296 on Saturday followed by a 12-over-par 300 in the second round. Refusing to let the early deficit derail their campaign, Harvard stormed back on Sunday with the 279-stroke performance, improving by 21 strokes and securing a tie for second place with Dartmouth at 11-over-par overall. The hosting Delaware squad captured the team title at six-over-par.

Standout Individual Performances

Freshman Rayee Feng fueled the final-day comeback by carding a six-under-par 66, marking the lowest individual round of the tournament. Feng notched seven birdies to climb 17 spots on the leaderboard, finishing tied for eighth at one-over-par. Junior Lucy Yuan also delivered a stellar round, shooting a five-under-par 67 with five birdies and no bogeys to rebound from earlier struggles.

Zhang credited her teammates’ resilience, noting that Yuan competed despite battling illness over the weekend. Other contributors included freshman Daniela Paez, who tied for 25th at nine-over-par, and sophomore Dixon Hill, who competed as an individual and finished tied for 27th.

Looking Ahead to the Spring Season

The strong finish in Delaware capped a successful autumn for Harvard, which also earned a runner-up team finish at the Yale Invitational earlier in the month. Having completed their fall schedule, the Crimson players will turn their attention to the upcoming spring season, carrying momentum from consecutive second-place team finishes and multiple individual trophies.
