TEHRAN (Azat TV) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced Tuesday that he has registered himself for the “Jan Fada” campaign, a national initiative calling on citizens to volunteer to sacrifice their lives in defense of the country. The move comes as tensions escalate with the United States, with President Donald Trump issuing stark warnings regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s infrastructure.
President Pezeshkian’s Pledge of Solidarity
President Pezeshkian stated that he stands alongside the millions of Iranians who have pledged to defend the Islamic Republic. The “Jan Fada” campaign, which translates to “The one who sacrifices,” has seen an overwhelming response, with state media reporting that over 14 million people have so far registered their willingness to be called into military service in case of an invasion. This surge in participation reflects a growing mobilization effort within Iran as rhetoric from Washington intensifies.
Escalating US Threats and Iranian Response
The heightened tensions follow a series of increasingly severe threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. Ahead of a Tuesday evening deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Trump warned that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if his demands were not met. He further threatened to attack power plants and bridges across Iran, stating that “the entire country can be taken out in one night.” These statements were made while Trump claimed the U.S. had achieved “Complete and Total Regime Change” in Iran, though he also left open the possibility of a last-hour agreement.
In response to the escalating U.S. posture, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued its own warning. The IRGC stated that if the U.S. crosses Tehran’s “red lines,” Iran’s response would extend beyond the region and target infrastructure to deprive the United States and its allies of oil and gas for years. The IRGC also indicated that previous reservations about choosing targets for retaliation had been removed.
Wider Mobilization Efforts
The “Jan Fada” campaign, propelled by state media and text message initiatives, has garnered significant public engagement. President Pezeshkian’s personal registration is seen as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the broad base of citizens who have volunteered. Earlier in the month, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had indicated that approximately seven million citizens were prepared to take up arms if necessary, a figure now reportedly surpassed by the ongoing volunteer campaign.
The declarations from Tehran, including President Pezeshkian’s pledge and the IRGC’s warnings, underscore Iran’s readiness to defend its sovereignty amid the severe geopolitical pressures. The events highlight a critical juncture in international relations, with both sides issuing forceful rhetoric and demonstrating preparedness for potential conflict, as reported by The Times of Israel and WION.
The widespread public volunteering and the President’s direct participation in the ‘Jan Fada’ campaign underscore the internal narrative of national resilience and willingness to confront external threats, signaling a unified stance against perceived aggression from the United States.
