Red Bull Formula 1 driver Isack Hadjar has been officially ruled out of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort after sustaining a hairline fracture in his wrist. While the young driver initially intended to compete despite the discomfort, he was persuaded to withdraw by a surprising source: MotoGP legend Marc Marquez.
According to Canal Plus journalist Julien Febreau, the two athletes share a physiotherapist, Carlos Garcia. Upon learning of Hadjar’s injury—reportedly sustained during boxing training—Marquez reached out to the Frenchman. The multi-time MotoGP champion, known for his own extensive history of injury management, advised Hadjar against racing in his current physical condition to avoid long-term complications.
Precautionary Measures
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed that the team’s stance is purely precautionary. Despite Hadjar’s strong performance in the first half of the 2026 season, the team is prioritizing his full recovery over immediate participation. Mekies noted that while it is unfortunate to lose the driver for a race weekend, the goal is to ensure he is fully fit for the upcoming round in Monza.
Hadjar has already been spotted in the Red Bull garage at Zandvoort, signaling his involvement with the team’s operations even from the sidelines. He also publicly demonstrated his support for his colleagues, leaving an encouraging comment on Yuki Tsunoda’s social media post regarding his own return to the grid.
Impact on the Driver Lineup
The absence of Hadjar has triggered a significant reshuffle within the Red Bull and Racing Bulls camps. Liam Lawson has stepped in to replace Hadjar at the senior team, while Yuki Tsunoda has been moved back to the Racing Bulls seat for the weekend. For Tsunoda, this represents a major opportunity to re-acclimate to F1 competition under new regulations, a chance he described as a moment he had been “dying to have.”
This organizational shifting adds another layer of complexity to Red Bull’s 2027 driver planning. Racing Bulls CEO Peter Bayer indicated that the team is currently evaluating several prospects, including Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Formula 2 leader Nikola Tsolov, who is scheduled for a test in Imola.
