Investigation into the death of Jamey Carney

Irish law enforcement, An Garda Síochána, has launched an international manhunt for 28-year-old Ahmad Alsaqer following the homicide of 43-year-old Jamey Carney in Killarney. Carney, a Westchester County, New York native who moved to Ireland in 2021, was discovered dead in her home on Muckross Road on July 7 by her 13-year-old daughter.

According to reports from the Irish Times and Extra.ie, Alsaqer, an asylum seeker who had been granted subsidiary protection in Ireland, had his passport returned to him by the International Protection Office upon receiving his status. Investigators believe Alsaqer utilized this document to board a flight to Turkey on the morning of July 7, hours before Carney’s body was discovered.

Challenges in the Criminal Case

The investigation faces significant evidentiary hurdles. While police consider Alsaqer the primary suspect, sources cited by the Irish Times indicate that linking him to the crime scene through DNA evidence may be complicated. Because Alsaqer was a frequent guest at the residence, his biological material was already present in the home, potentially complicating forensic efforts to prove he was the perpetrator of the fatal assault.

Carney, who worked in healthcare consulting, reportedly met Alsaqer at a pro-Palestinian rally approximately 18 months ago. Neighbors reported hearing a loud argument at the residence on the night of July 6. Police believe Alsaqer departed Killarney by bus at approximately 3 a.m. the following morning, granting him a 12-hour lead over investigators.

International Cooperation

An Garda Síochána has confirmed it is coordinating with international law enforcement partners to track the suspect, who is believed to have contacts in Syria, Jordan, and Turkey. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Muckross Road between the evening of July 6 and the afternoon of July 7 to come forward with information.
