A Long-Awaited Return
Jeremy Lin, the central figure of the historic 2011-12 “Linsanity” phenomenon, is set to return to Madison Square Garden. According to reports from the New York Post, Lin will attend Games 3 and 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. This appearance marks his first time back at the arena as a spectator since his departure from the franchise.
Following his retirement last August at age 37, Lin finally has the schedule flexibility to accept recurring invitations from the Knicks organization. “The Knicks have been really adamant and have been consistent about trying to get me to go back to a game,” Lin told the New York Post. “Now, this is my first season being retired. I have this time and the ability to actually show up.”
Legacy and Cultural Impact
Lin’s brief but electrifying tenure in New York left a lasting mark on the NBA landscape. Current Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns recently credited Lin for his own fandom. “I truly want to give a shoutout to Jeremy Lin because he really made me a Knicks fan,” Towns stated. “He’s one of my favorite Knicks of all time.”
While his initial exit from New York was marked by a contentious free-agency period, this return signifies a reconciliation between the former star and the organization. Lin, who has spent time during these playoffs as an analyst for ESPN, will be seated in the lower bowl to witness the Knicks’ pursuit of the championship title.
