Authorities in Nelson County, Virginia, have recovered the body of a man from a submerged vehicle in Lake Nelson following a recovery operation on September 7, 2026. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to the Arrington site shortly before 7 a.m. after the vehicle was spotted in the water.
Upon arrival, law enforcement identified the vehicle approximately 30 yards from a public boat ramp. A collaborative effort involving dive and water rescue units from the Virginia State Police and Wintergreen Fire and Rescue was required to extract the vehicle from the lake. Officials confirmed that the body of the driver, identified as Graham Isaac Bolter of Waynesboro, was found inside the vehicle.
Following the recovery, the remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond. The medical examiner is tasked with conducting an examination to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the death. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation into the incident, though no further details regarding the cause of the vehicle entering the water have been released at this time.
