Midfield Overhaul Begins
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has informed midfielder Manuel Ugarte that he is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, marking the start of a decisive summer rebuild. The decision comes as the club seeks to refine its midfield options following the departure of Casemiro and ahead of a demanding 26/27 campaign that will see the Red Devils return to Champions League football.
Ugarte, a £42m signing from PSG, has struggled to cement a starting position under Carrick. Reports indicate that former United manager Ruben Amorim, now at AC Milan, has opened talks to bring the 25-year-old to Italy. While United are hoping to recoup approximately £30m for the Uruguayan, negotiations remain ongoing.
Targeting Creative Reinforcements
As Carrick looks to add depth to his squad to manage a twice-a-week fixture load, the club has launched a formal enquiry for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville. Sources suggest United are prioritizing the 24-year-old to strengthen the left flank, particularly with potential departures looming in the forward line.
Competition for talent remains fierce, with Tottenham Hotspur also monitoring Summerville. Should negotiations with the Hammers prove difficult, United are reportedly tracking alternative targets, including Iliman Ndiaye and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande. Diomande, valued at over £86m, is considered one of Europe’s top emerging talents, with Liverpool also expressing significant interest.
Strategic Depth for Europe
The urgency of these moves stems from the club’s successful resurgence under Carrick last season. Having finished the campaign with a lighter domestic schedule, the squad must now adapt to the intensity of European competition. With a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson reportedly agreed at £35m, Carrick is clearly focused on technical efficiency in the center of the park to ensure the team remains competitive on multiple fronts.
