Port Adelaide forward Mitch Georgiades has been ruled out for the remainder of his side’s match against St Kilda after suffering a concussion in a heavy mid-air collision. The incident occurred during the second quarter when Georgiades and St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall contested a high ball, resulting in a significant impact.
Following the collision, Georgiades was evaluated under the AFL’s mandatory Head Injury Assessment (HIA) protocols. The club subsequently confirmed that he would take no further part in the fixture. The match proved costly for Port Adelaide, as they also lost star player Zak Butters to a serious ankle injury, further depleting their bench as the team attempted to close a significant half-time deficit.
While Georgiades was able to walk from the field under his own power, his removal from the game highlights the ongoing focus on player safety and the strict enforcement of concussion protocols within the league. Port Adelaide ultimately fell to St Kilda by 14 points, with the injury toll complicating their late-season rotation strategy.
