Naomi Osaka advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career on Friday, defeating Daria Kasatkina in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The match, which lasted just 65 minutes, saw the 14th-seeded Osaka dominate play, completing her set of second-week appearances across all four Grand Slam tournaments.
According to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Osaka maintained control throughout the majority of the contest, dropping only five points on her serve during the opening set. While Kasatkina, a former Wimbledon quarterfinalist, attempted a comeback midway through the second set by extending rallies and utilizing her forehand, Osaka regained momentum to secure a decisive break and close out the match.
This victory extends Osaka’s head-to-head lead over Kasatkina to 4-0. The match marked the first time the two players, both born in 1997, had met on a grass court. With this result, Osaka joins an elite group of active players who have reached the fourth round at every major championship.
