Blizzard Entertainment launched the Season 4 update for Overwatch on August 11, introducing a sweeping series of balance adjustments across Tank, Damage, and Support roles. The update significantly alters hero perks, fine-tunes ultimate recharge rates, and implements global passive adjustments designed to recalibrate competitive play.

According to patch details compiled by gaming outlet Dexerto, a key global system adjustment in this update impacts the Flanker subrole within the Damage class. The extra healing provided by health packs for Flankers has been reduced from 75 to 50 health points, curbing the self-sustain efficiency of high-mobility heroes who rely on map resources.

Tank Class Tuning: Barrier Enhancements and Mobility Penalties

The Tank roster received substantial perk reconfigurations aimed at defining frontline survival and dynamic engagement. Domina saw an increase in Panopticon barrier health from 450 to 500, giving shield-heavy comps additional stability. Doomfist received a direct damage increase to Seismic Slam, rising from 50 to 60 units.

Orisa undergoes a perk restructuring as the Charged Javelin Major Perk is removed and replaced with Heavy Javelin, which grants a 25% increase to Energy Javelin knockback alongside 15 additional wall impact damage. Mauga gains boosted overhealth generation per shot via Combat Fuel (up to 4 from 3), balanced by an increased Overrun cooldown from 5 to 6 seconds in 5v5 modes. Meanwhile, Winston benefits from a 6% reduction in ultimate cost and elevated healing for Revitalizing Barrier from 30 to 35, while Hazard receives an ultimate cost increase of 7% alongside a reduction in Bonespur hits required for Explosive Impalements from 14 to 12.

Damage Heroes: Perk Shifts and Mobility Refinements

Damage hero modifications focus heavily on perk swapping and movement mechanics. Tracer loses the Chronal Dash perk but gains Temporal Regen, accelerating passive health regeneration by 50%, while her Recall cooldown decreases from 13 to 12 seconds. Cassidy replaces Even the Odds with Giddy Up, granting a 60% movement speed burst following Combat Roll that decays over 1.5 seconds.

Echo shifts Focused Rush from a Minor to a Major Perk, enhancing Focusing Beam range from 6 to 8 meters and speed gain to 25%, while receiving Aerial Munitions for infinite flight ammo as High Beams is removed. Venture enjoys expanded mobility and shields, with Deep Burrow distance increased to 75% and Covered in Dirt shields raised to 40, alongside an 8% reduction in ultimate cost. Ultimate cost reductions were also handed to Genji (6%) and Emre (6%), whereas Pharah’s Concussive Blast cooldown was lengthened from 7 to 8 seconds, and Shion’s Joyride detection radius was trimmed to 1 meter.

Support Adjustments and Technical Utility

Support heroes received critical balance shifts targeting positioning and utility interactions. Lifeweaver’s Life Grip base pull speed dropped from 30 to 25 meters per second, introducing momentum decay over distances beyond 15 meters; players can now manually cancel the pull using Jump input after 0.6 seconds. Juno’s Pulsar Torpedoes lock-on speed was accelerated, reducing minimum lock time from 0.5 to 0.35 seconds.

Jetpack Cat undergoes a perk redesign as Headbutt is removed for Purrfect Form, while gaining higher base movement speed (6 m/s) and air acceleration (9.5) against a 7% ultimate cost increase. Mizuki was scaled back across multiple abilities, with Quickstep speed reduced to 20%, Binding Chain projectile size reduced to 0.3, and Katashiro Return cooldown lengthened to 12 seconds. Conversely, Zenyatta’s Discordant Repair lifesteal increased to 15%, and Wuyang’s Guardian Wave maximum coverage angle expanded to 15 degrees, framing a season focused on precision positioning.
