Beyond the professional competition, the event is being leveraged as a strategic engine for regional recovery, with organizers projecting $10 million in direct spending within the Asheville area, according to WLOS. The tournament arrives as the community continues to navigate the post-Hurricane Helene landscape, with local business leaders identifying the influx of visitors as a crucial catalyst for post-disaster economic stabilization.
Local Integration and Corporate Collaboration
Tournament organizers have integrated Asheville-area culinary and beverage businesses directly into the spectator experience. Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn, serving as the official tournament popcorn, has collaborated with Asheville High School students to create limited-edition commemorative packaging. CEO Ginger Frank noted that the project provided students with professional exposure, while the partnership also generated a $6,000 contribution to MANNA FoodBank, split between the company, the tournament, and The Cliffs at Walnut Cove.
Other regional participants include The Hop Ice Cream, which is serving a signature “Hole-in-One” flavor, and Biltmore Winery, which developed a custom “The Caddie” wine. Greg Garrison, co-owner of The Hop, described the tournament’s emphasis on local vendors as an intentional effort to create a “ripple effect” that supports the broader western North Carolina economy.
Performance Highlights and Emerging Talent
On the course, veteran Nick Taylor provided an early highlight during Thursday’s opening round on the 523-yard, par-5 15th hole. After a 289-yard drive and a challenging bunker sequence, Taylor successfully converted a 5-foot-10-inch birdie putt, according to PGA Tour tracking data.
The field also features emerging amateur talent, including University of North Carolina sophomore Carson Bertagnole. As reported by UNC Athletics, Bertagnole earned his spot after a standout season in the 2026 Elite Amateur Cup Series, where he tied course records at both the Northeast Amateur and Southern Amateur. David Ford, the 2025 National Player of the Year, is also making his return to the tour following a five-month injury hiatus.
