  • Shaw Lido is the only cinema in Southeast Asia screening 'The Odyssey' on 35mm.
  • The cinema restored two 1993 projectors to enable the screening.
  • The 35mm print offers a visual experience closer to the director's IMAX intent.

Moviegoers in Singapore now have a rare opportunity to experience Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in its analog form. Shaw Lido has officially launched a 35mm screening of the film, marking the first time in 13 years that the cinema has utilized its traditional projection capabilities.

According to reports, the cinema achieved this by restoring two original 1993 35mm projectors. The initiative brings together veteran projectionists familiar with the equipment and a new generation of staff, ensuring the technical demands of celluloid projection are met. The film is currently showing exclusively in the Lumiere Grand hall, which has been equipped for the special run.

For cinephiles, the 35mm format offers a distinct visual texture—characterized by its warmth and grain—that differs significantly from modern digital projections. As The Odyssey was shot using high-resolution IMAX technology, the 35mm print is intended to offer a viewing experience closer to the director’s original vision. To mark the occasion, the cinema is providing attendees with an exclusive A3 artwork poster, limited to 650 copies.

The film, featuring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, follows the epic journey of King Odysseus as he navigates the trials of the Trojan War. Shaw Lido remains the only venue in Southeast Asia offering this specific 35mm presentation.
