A New Chapter at Hillsborough
Sheffield Wednesday have officially confirmed the signing of 23-year-old forward Louie Barry from Aston Villa. The move, announced on July 9, 2026, sees the talented attacker join the Owls on a four-year contract, with the club holding an option to extend the deal for an additional 12 months.
The transfer represents a significant step for both the club and the player. For Sheffield Wednesday, currently navigating a rebuild following relegation to League One, Barry’s arrival provides a proven attacking threat familiar with the rigors of the division. For Barry, the move marks a departure from a nomadic career defined by frequent loan spells.
Ending the Loan Cycle
During his tenure at Aston Villa, Barry was sent out on loan nine times, gaining experience across various clubs including Hull City, Sheffield United, and Stockport County. Speaking to the club’s official channel, Barry emphasized the importance of finding a permanent home.
“The main thing in football is that you don’t want to be bouncing around every six months or every year,” Barry stated. “It is an amazing thing to call a club your own. When I heard I could make this a permanent move, I just wanted to do it straight away. It is time that I just settle down and find a home for me.”
Reunion with Simon Wilson
The move sees Barry reunite with Sheffield Wednesday’s sporting director, Simon Wilson, with whom he worked closely during his successful spells at Stockport County. Barry has established himself as a versatile wide forward, often operating effectively as a right-footed player on the left wing. With 40 career goals in 147 senior appearances, his experience is expected to be a vital asset for the Owls as they look to mount a challenge in League One.
