Incident Overview
Three students were hospitalized following a stabbing incident at Americas High School in El Paso, Texas, on the morning of Friday, August 28, 2026. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the victims are currently in stable condition. A suspect involved in the incident has been taken into custody by the Socorro Independent School District (SISD) police.
Emergency Response and Lockdown
The incident occurred as students were arriving for class. In response to the emergency, the school was immediately placed on lockdown. The El Paso Fire Department deployed a FireSTAR helicopter to the campus to assist with the medical response. By late morning, district officials announced that the lockdown had been lifted and replaced with a “hold” status while law enforcement concluded their initial scene investigation.
At 11:10 a.m., the school began a controlled dismissal process. SISD officials mandated that parents or guardians pick up their students in person at the entrance near the main gym, requiring valid identification for verification. All after-school activities for the day were officially cancelled.
Investigation and Official Statements
The investigation is being led by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, in coordination with the Texas Rangers and the Socorro ISD Police Department. As of the afternoon, the area of Pellicano Drive adjacent to the school remained closed to traffic to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
Local and state officials have issued statements expressing concern over the event. El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson stated, “No parent should have to receive a call that their child has been hurt at school,” while El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego praised the swift coordination between staff and first responders. Texas Senator Cesar Blanco also confirmed that his office is monitoring the situation in collaboration with the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
Next Steps
District officials scheduled a press conference for 2:00 p.m. on Friday to provide further details regarding the circumstances of the incident and the status of the investigation. The district has confirmed that the parents of all students involved in the incident have been directly notified.
