Luis Suárez, the Uruguayan striker and one of the most prolific forwards in Major League Soccer (MLS), has signed a one-year contract extension with Inter Miami, securing his place in the team until the end of the 2025 season. The extension follows a stellar debut year in MLS, during which Suárez demonstrated why he remains one of the game’s most celebrated strikers.
Suárez joined Inter Miami in December on a one-year deal and made an immediate impact. With 21 goals and 10 assists in 30 matches, he helped propel the Herons to the 2024 Supporter’s Shield and set a league record for the most points in a single season. Suárez’s remarkable performances earned him a nomination for the 2024 MLS Newcomer of the Year Award and tied him for second place in the MLS Golden Boot race.
“I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family. We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy.”
Inter Miami’s co-owner Jorge Mas praised Suárez’s contributions, calling his 2024 season “spectacular.” Raúl Sanllehí, the club’s president of football operations, emphasized the forward’s leadership qualities:
“Luis was not only our leading scorer this season, but also a leader for the group. His impact cannot be understated.”
Suárez’s extension comes as Inter Miami prepares for another exciting season under the leadership of new head coach Javier Mascherano, his former Barcelona teammate. Suárez and Mascherano previously played alongside Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets in La Liga, forming one of football’s most iconic teams.
Suárez’s extension marks Inter Miami’s first major roster move of the offseason, with more decisions expected as the club finalizes its squad for the 2025 campaign. The Uruguayan’s continued presence solidifies Miami’s attacking strength and sets the stage for another competitive season.
