The Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the most celebrated teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), has officially renamed its home venue to Benchmark International Arena. The announcement, made on August 13, 2025, marks the beginning of a multi-year partnership between Vinik Sports Group (VSG) and Benchmark International, a global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) firm. The deal reflects both organizations’ commitment to excellence, community impact, and innovation.
A New Era for Tampa Bay’s Premier Venue
The newly named Benchmark International Arena replaces the Amalie Arena moniker, which had been in place since the 2014-15 season. Located in the heart of Tampa’s Water Street neighborhood, the venue has been a cornerstone of the city’s sports and entertainment landscape since its opening in 1996. It has hosted millions of fans, numerous marquee events, and three Stanley Cup Championships, solidifying its status as a world-class facility.
Steve Griggs, CEO of Vinik Sports Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “Benchmark International is a well-respected brand with global reach and strong ties to the Tampa Bay community. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to excellence, service, and community impact.” According to ESPN, the renaming takes effect immediately, with a phased rollout of new signage and branding set to debut ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season.
The Partnership’s Broader Impact
Benchmark International, headquartered in Tampa with offices worldwide, is recognized as a leader in M&A transactions, having closed over $12.5 billion in deal value across various industries. Steven Keane, Chairman and Co-Founder of Benchmark International, described the partnership as a “proud moment” for the firm, emphasizing its alignment with the Lightning’s mission of community engagement and excellence. “This arena represents our continued investment in Tampa Bay and our belief in building something that lasts,” Keane said, as reported by NHL.com.
One of the key elements of the partnership is its community-focused initiatives. Over $3 million in nonprofit contributions will be made to benefit the Tampa Bay area. Additionally, the arena’s premium club level will be rebranded as the Benchmark International Club Level, featuring a new signature all-inclusive experience called “The Mark.” These enhancements aim to elevate the guest experience while maintaining the venue’s legacy as a hub for sports and entertainment.
Community Celebrations and Future Plans
To commemorate the naming transition, VSG and Benchmark International plan to host a series of free community events in mid-October 2025. These events will celebrate the partnership and provide fans with an opportunity to engage with the rebranded venue. Details are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, according to Tampa Bay Times.
The rebranding process will also include digital integrations and new exterior and interior signage, ensuring a seamless transformation for visitors. Furthermore, VSG has collaborated with Oak View Group’s Global Partnerships division to enhance food and beverage offerings, adding another layer of excitement for fans attending events at the arena.
A Legacy of Excellence
Since its inception, the arena has been a symbol of Tampa’s vibrant sports culture and community spirit. Under the leadership of Jeff Vinik, the Lightning and the venue have undergone significant transformations, including extensive renovations and enhanced guest experiences. This latest partnership builds on that legacy, promising to usher in a new chapter for both the team and its fans.
While financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the agreement underscores the mutual respect and shared vision between VSG and Benchmark International. As Tyrus O’Neill, CEO of Benchmark International Americas, aptly put it, “This opportunity allows us to bring our energy and passion into an exciting new chapter.”
The renaming of the arena to Benchmark International Arena not only reflects a strategic business partnership but also a commitment to enriching Tampa Bay’s community and sports culture for years to come.
