Wests Group Macarthur has officially commenced construction on “The Woodlands,” a significant new family entertainment precinct located at The Sherwood in Leumeah. The project, aimed at becoming the largest family-focused play destination in South West Sydney, seeks to integrate large-scale recreational facilities with hospitality services.
Developed in partnership with playground specialist KOMPAN, the facility is designed around a treehouse-inspired theme. Key features of the site include nine-metre climbing towers, interconnected play structures, and water and sensory play areas. The precinct will also incorporate basketball courts, an outdoor viewing screen, and a dedicated toddler zone titled “Spellbound Shack.”
Beyond physical play areas, the expansion introduces a new family café and a confectionery counter offering hot donuts, gelato, and various light meals. This addition is intended to cater to birthday parties and group celebrations, extending the venue’s utility beyond active recreation.
Wests Group Macarthur CEO Daniel Perkiss stated that the project is intended to function as a complete destination, allowing children to engage in prolonged play while parents utilize the venue’s hospitality offerings. Debbie Chambers, Managing Director of KOMPAN Australia, noted that the site represents one of the company’s most significant Australian developments and is expected to establish a new regional benchmark for family recreation.
The Sherwood Venue Manager Julia Maulguet emphasized that the project aims to fill a gap in the local market for combined hospitality and entertainment. Construction is currently in progress, with the official opening of The Woodlands projected for late 2026 or early 2027.
