Egypt to Halt Russian Grain Exports from Occupied Territories
KYIV (Azat TV) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that Egypt has agreed to cease accepting grain exports originating from Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories, a move he expressed gratitude for. In a significant shift, Cairo will instead look to increase its imports of grain directly from Ukraine.
Bilateral Cooperation and Regional Stability Discussed
The announcement followed a conversation between President Zelensky and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Zelensky stated that Egypt is also prepared to contribute to achieving a peaceful resolution for Ukraine. The foreign ministers of both nations are set to maintain contact to further these discussions.
Beyond agricultural cooperation, the leaders delved into the complex situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region, examining its potential ramifications for the global oil market. Discussions also touched upon Ukraine’s capacity for military-technical cooperation, with both sides expressing readiness to explore opportunities in this domain. Zelensky indicated that various other avenues for enhancing bilateral relations were also explored and that work in these areas would continue.
The decision by Egypt, a major importer of grain, signals a growing international alignment against Russia’s actions regarding Ukrainian agricultural exports and highlights Egypt’s willingness to support Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict.
