Emergency Response in Hamden
Authorities in Vinton County, Ohio, have launched a major criminal investigation following the rescue of 16 children from a residence in Hamden. The operation, which took place on June 30, 2026, followed the execution of a search warrant at a property on Ohmer Street.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson, who addressed the media following the raid, described the conditions inside the home as “pure evil,” noting that it was one of the most distressing scenes he has encountered in his career as a prosecutor. Two of the rescued children, whose ages range from 18 months to 18 years, required immediate life-flight transport to regional trauma centers. The remaining children are currently receiving medical evaluation and care at various facilities across the state.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Four adults—identified as Gary Siders Sr., Gary Siders Jr., Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders—were taken into custody on the scene. All four suspects currently face charges of child endangerment. They are scheduled to appear for arraignment at the Vinton County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain is leading the local investigation in coordination with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Vinton County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials have confirmed that a secondary investigation into the property is ongoing, as the initial search uncovered conditions described by law enforcement as “deplorable.”
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued a statement acknowledging the gravity of the situation. “It is heartbreaking to learn the conditions that these children were living in,” DeWine stated, adding that the Ohio Department of Children and Youth is actively assisting local services to ensure the victims receive necessary support.
