IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (Azat TV) – A 28-year-old Statesville man is being held without bond following a violent home invasion and the alleged removal of a court-ordered electronic ankle monitor. Isaiah Ryan Cope was taken into custody by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office after a multi-agency pursuit, according to officials from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began on Thursday, July 16, when deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance in northern Iredell County. Upon arrival, Deputy R. Ball identified the suspect as Cope, noting his history with previous domestic violence investigations. Deputies confirmed that at the time of the incident, Cope was on pretrial release for prior domestic violence charges and was under a judicial mandate to wear an electronic monitoring device.
Investigators allege that Cope unlawfully entered the victim’s residence and physically assaulted her. The victim sustained visible injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Iredell County EMS for treatment. Authorities further stated that when the victim attempted to summon assistance, Cope allegedly seized and damaged her cellphone to prevent her from contacting emergency services.
Cope fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival, having allegedly removed his ankle monitor to evade detection. He was apprehended shortly thereafter by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office while walking along Interstate 77. He has since been transported to the Iredell County Detention Center.
Cope faces a comprehensive list of charges, including felony first-degree burglary, felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and several misdemeanors: assault on a female, domestic violence, interfering with an electronic monitoring device, and injury to both real and personal property. A magistrate has ordered him held without bond on these new charges, with an additional $150,000 secured bond for violating the conditions of his previous pretrial release.
