A New Chapter for the Jolie-Pitt Family
Angelina Jolie is reportedly preparing for a significant life transition as her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, officially reached adulthood on July 12. The milestone marks the end of a long-standing period of custody-related constraints that have kept the actress based in Los Angeles since her 2016 divorce filing from Brad Pitt.
For years, Jolie has expressed her intent to move away from Southern California. In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she candidly stated, “I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.” Sources close to the actress indicate that she is looking to establish a more permanent base in Cambodia, a country she has long described as feeling like home and where she adopted her eldest son, Maddox.
Real Estate Hurdles
Despite her desire to relocate, the process is currently being slowed by the sale of her historic Los Feliz estate. The property, a 0.8-hectare estate formerly owned by legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, was listed in May for $29.85 million. While Jolie has the financial means to move immediately, she has expressed a preference to finalize the sale of the mansion, which she purchased for approximately $25 million in 2017, to fully “close that chapter” of her life.
The luxury real estate market in Los Angeles has been sluggish, contributing to the delay. However, insiders suggest that her commitment to leaving remains firm. Beyond her focus on Cambodia, Jolie plans to maintain a presence in New York City, where she continues to oversee her creative and fashion venture, Atelier Jolie.
Conclusion of a Decade-Long Dispute
The transition comes on the heels of a protracted legal battle. While the divorce between Jolie and Pitt was finalized in 2024, disputes regarding shared assets, including the Château Miraval winery, remain ongoing. The conclusion of the custody requirements—which had previously restricted her movement—represents a definitive shift in the family dynamic.
Jolie, who has been vocal about her changing perspective on the United States, noted during the 2025 San Sebastián Film Festival that she feels disconnected from the current state of her home country. Her planned relocation is framed as a move toward a more global, “united, and international” lifestyle, prioritizing privacy and safety for her family as they enter this new phase of adulthood.
