Quick Read

  • Anthropic has chosen Nasdaq for its upcoming IPO, which could take place as soon as October.
  • The company is targeting an IPO valuation that could rival or exceed SpaceX’s .3 billion offering.
  • Annualized revenue for Anthropic has reached over billion, a sevenfold increase since late last year.

Anthropic PBC has selected Nasdaq as its listing venue for a highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), according to a person familiar with the matter as reported by Bloomberg. The move positions the Claude chatbot maker to join a series of major technology offerings on the exchange this year.

The company, which focuses on AI safety and development, is reportedly aiming to raise capital in an IPO that could materialize as soon as October. Sources cited by Bloomberg indicate the firm is seeking to raise a sum comparable to or exceeding the offering size of SpaceX, which completed an $86.3 billion IPO on Nasdaq in June. Business Insider first reported the decision to list on the exchange.

This development comes as the broader US IPO market experiences a resurgence. Data compiled by Bloomberg shows that US listings have raised $160.6 billion this year, excluding blank-check firms and other financial vehicles, marking the highest annual volume since 2021. Anthropic’s selection adds to a streak of high-profile listings for Nasdaq, which also hosted the $26.5 billion debut of SK Hynix Inc. in July.

Financial performance data suggests significant growth for Anthropic. The company is currently on track to generate annualized revenue exceeding $65 billion, representing a sevenfold increase from its pace at the end of last year. Additionally, reports indicate the firm was nearing the finalization of a $15 billion revolving credit facility earlier this month.

Despite the market activity, the industry faces internal debate regarding the pace of AI development. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, alongside OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk, recently addressed the need for caution, citing safety risks associated with advanced AI. Unlike Anthropic, OpenAI has explicitly stated it does not intend to go public this year, citing similar safety-focused considerations.

Representatives for Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Nasdaq declined to comment on the report.
