Originally slated for an autumn launch, the company shifted its strategy on June 18, 2026, to accommodate overwhelming consumer interest. Industry reports from Automobilwoche confirm that the move targets the premium EV market, where the brand is looking to capitalize on the momentum generated by its successful iX3 SUV.

Performance and Charging Specs

The new i3 50 xDrive, built on BMW’s dedicated Neue Klasse EV platform, features a 108.7 kWh battery pack. The vehicle boasts an impressive WLTP range of up to 566 miles (912 km). With its 800V architecture, the sedan is engineered for high-speed performance, capable of regaining approximately 250 miles of range in just 10 minutes at DC fast-charging stations supporting up to 400 kW.

In the German market, the “First Edition” model is priced starting at €75,340, with base models beginning at €65,900. The vehicle incorporates the new BMW Neue Klasse cabin interface, anchored by a 43-inch Panoramic Vision display and a 17.9-inch central infotainment screen.

Global Market Strategy

While the initial rollout is focused on European markets, BMW is closely monitoring global demand, including significant interest from China. The company aims to maintain its competitive edge against both legacy OEMs and emerging electric vehicle brands. Production remains on schedule to commence at the Munich plant this summer, with customer deliveries expected to begin in the fall of 2026.
