Brisbane Roar FC have officially announced the signing of Australian midfielder Tyrese Francois on a multi-year contract, significantly bolstering the club’s midfield options ahead of the 2026/27 A-League season. The 26-year-old midfielder returns to his home country with a wealth of experience accumulated across England and continental Europe.
According to reports from Football360, the acquisition represents a major transfer coup for Brisbane Roar, who reportedly beat out league rivals Sydney FC to secure the signature of the former Australian youth international. The move signals Brisbane’s intent to establish a highly competitive squad under head coach Michael Valkanis as he enters his second season at the helm.
Winning the Race Against Sydney FC
The pursuit of Francois was highly competitive, with Sydney FC actively looking to bring the talented midfielder into their ranks. Ultimately, Brisbane Roar’s sporting project and the opportunity to play a central role in Valkanis’ rebuilt midfield convinced the Campbelltown-born player to head to Queensland.

From Fulham Academy to the A-League
Francois relocated from New South Wales to London at a young age, joining Fulham’s prestigious academy system. He successfully progressed through the youth ranks at Craven Cottage, eventually breaking into the first team and making his Premier League debut for the club between 2021 and 2022.
To further his development, Fulham sent the midfielder on several loan spells. He gained valuable European experience playing for HNK Gorica in the Croatian top flight and Vejle Boldklub in Denmark. Most recently, Francois was plying his trade in England’s League One with Wigan Athletic.
At the international level, Francois has represented Australia at the U23 level, featuring for the Olyroos during the 2021 and 2022 international windows. He was part of a highly regarded generation of young Australian players who chose to develop their careers in competitive European environments.
