A New Opportunity in Philadelphia
Former Arizona standout Caleb Love has officially agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday. The move marks a fresh start for the 25-year-old guard, who spent his rookie season within the Portland Trail Blazers organization.
Love’s transition to the 76ers follows a challenging end to his tenure in Portland. After going undrafted in 2025, Love became a vital component of the Blazers’ rotation during the middle of the season, particularly during a high-impact stretch in January. During that period, he averaged 14.5 points and 3.5 assists per game, providing critical scoring depth while the team navigated various injury issues. However, as Portland’s veteran guards returned to the lineup and the team acquired Ja Morant, Love’s opportunities dwindled, leaving him sidelined for much of the final two months due to the limitations of his two-way status.
Tactical Fit and Developmental Goals
In his 49 appearances for the Trail Blazers, Love demonstrated a high-volume shooting profile. While his efficiency—38.8% from the field and 31.8% from three-point range—remains a focal point for improvement, his ability to create offense and hit difficult shots at volume has drawn interest from the 76ers’ front office. For Philadelphia, which is currently undergoing a significant roster overhaul including the high-profile acquisition of Jaylen Brown, Love offers a low-risk, high-reward developmental prospect.
The 76ers have been aggressive in recruiting former Trail Blazers personnel, with teammates Rayan Rupert, Anfernee Simons, and others also joining the franchise’s orbit this week. For Love, the primary objective in Philadelphia is to leverage this two-way opportunity into a standard NBA contract. His experience as a rotation player in Portland provides a foundation, but he will need to demonstrate greater consistency to earn a permanent spot in a competitive 76ers backcourt.
