  • Morgan Rogers has joined Chelsea for a record-breaking £117 million.
  • He is now the most expensive English player in history.
  • The contract runs for six years, expiring in 2033.
  • Aston Villa has signed Johan Manzambi and is targeting Alejandro Garnacho as a replacement.

Chelsea has officially confirmed the signing of 23-year-old England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal worth £117 million. The transfer, finalised this week, cements Rogers’ status as the most expensive English player in history, surpassing the £116 million fee paid for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer.

The move to Stamford Bridge brings an end to a high-profile pursuit that saw Chelsea outbid Arsenal, who were previously viewed as front-runners for the midfielder. Rogers has signed a six-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2033.

For Aston Villa, the departure provides a significant financial injection, mirroring the strategic sale of Jack Grealish in 2021. According to former senior Villa scout Bryan King, the club had been under pressure regarding profit and sustainability rules, a situation that the record-breaking fee has largely resolved. Villa has already moved to bolster their squad by signing Johan Manzambi and remains in active negotiations to secure Alejandro Garnacho.

Despite the record fee, industry observers suggest the valuation could have climbed even higher. “I thought they could have got more for Rogers, to be honest,” King told Football Insider, noting that a fee in the £130 million range would have been a more accurate reflection of the current market trajectory.
