Recovery Timeline
The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Wednesday that star center Connor Bedard has undergone successful surgery to repair his left shoulder. The procedure follows an injury sustained during an offseason training session in Burnaby, B.C., on July 2. According to team physician Dr. Michael Terry, the expected recovery timeline is approximately four months, which will force Bedard to miss the beginning of the 2026-27 NHL campaign.
With the regular season set to commence in late September, Bedard is projected to return to the lineup in early to mid-November. This marks the latest injury setback for the 20-year-old, who previously missed time during his rookie season due to a fractured jaw and dealt with a separate shoulder injury last December.
Impact on Blackhawks Roster
Bedard’s absence creates a significant void for the Blackhawks, who relied on him as their leading scorer last season with 75 points in 69 games. Without their primary playmaker, the team must now pivot to younger prospects to fill the center position. General Manager Kyle Davidson may look to add veteran depth, but the immediate responsibility falls on emerging centers Frank Nazar and Anton Frondell.
The situation complicates the team’s early-season outlook, as the Blackhawks look to improve upon their previous performance. Furthermore, Bedard remains a restricted free agent. While contract negotiations have been ongoing, the injury adds a layer of complexity to the discussions between the organization and their franchise centerpiece.
