  • He recorded 149 points in 576 NHL career games.
  • The move ends his nine-season run in North America.

Former NHL forward David Kämpf has officially signed with HC Litvínov of the Czech Extraliga, marking his return to his home country after nine professional seasons in North America. The decision follows a challenging 2025-26 campaign that saw the 31-year-old split time between the Vancouver Canucks and the Washington Capitals.

Kämpf, who began his NHL career as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017, appeared in 576 career NHL games, recording 50 goals and 149 points. His resume includes stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he secured a four-year contract extension in 2023, and later the Canucks and Capitals. His most recent season was marked by limited production, totaling only six points in 40 games combined.

Reflecting on the transition, Kämpf noted that his recent experiences in the NHL had become increasingly demanding, shifting his perspective on the sport. “After nine difficult years playing overseas, I felt it was essential to return home and join a team close to my roots,” Kämpf stated. He emphasized that the opportunity to play alongside childhood friends, such as the Kaš brothers, was a primary factor in his choice to join HC Litvínov.

The move comes after his NHL playing rights were traded to the Buffalo Sabres in June as part of a larger transaction involving Alex Tuch. With this signing, industry analysts suggest it is unlikely that the veteran center will return to North American professional hockey, as he focuses on finding renewed passion for the game within the Czech Extraliga.
