Tag Team Victory Shifts Title Landscape
In a high-stakes encounter on October 3, 2026, Dominik Mysterio and Omos defeated AAA Mega Champion El Grande Americano and wrestling legend Rey Mysterio at the Domo de la Feria in Leon, Mexico. The victory, reported by ProWrestling.net, carries immediate championship implications: Dominik Mysterio has secured a formal title shot against El Grande Americano, scheduled for October 24.
The match was established during a heated opening segment. Dorian Roldan, representing the Omos-Dominik camp, challenged the validity of a previous decision involving Rey Mysterio, who has been balancing his active in-ring career with his responsibilities as AAA’s General Manager. El Grande Americano proposed a tag team match with the stipulation that a loss for Dominik would permanently bar him from future title challenges against the current champion. The defeat of the veteran duo confirmed that Dominik will indeed receive his opportunity later this month, according to Fightful.
The conclusion of the bout was marked by significant controversy. After Omos intercepted a double 619 attempt by the Mysterios, Dominik capitalized by removing his father’s mask and striking El Grande Americano with the championship belt before securing the pinfall victory. Dominik celebrated by displaying both the stolen mask and the Mega Championship title.
Latin American Championship Standoff
Earlier in the event, the AAA Latin American Championship match between titleholder La Parka and Mr. Iguana ended in a no-contest. The match, which saw both competitors showcase high-intensity offensive maneuvers, was interrupted by the interference of Los Perros Del Mal. The subsequent post-match brawl was halted when Nino Hamburguesa intervened to save La Parka, signaling a potential shift toward a trios championship match at the upcoming AAA Heroes Inmortales event.
Rey Mysterio remains a central figure in AAA’s current programming despite his dual-role status. In recent comments, Mysterio noted that he is currently “winging it” regarding his long-term retirement plans, as he continues to find satisfaction in his simultaneous roles as a performer and administrator within the industry, as reported by Fightful. Mysterio emphasized that he is currently enjoying the process of performing while learning the administrative side of the business, allowing him to navigate his future without the stress of a rigid timeline.
The events in Leon underscore the escalating tensions within the promotion. With Dominik Mysterio now positioned as the primary challenger to El Grande Americano’s reign, the upcoming title match on October 24 is expected to be a focal point of AAA’s television output. Meanwhile, the interference by Los Perros Del Mal suggests that the mid-card landscape is shifting toward multi-man configurations, with Nino Hamburguesa emerging as a key defender of the existing order. Fans remain focused on the fallout from the mask-stripping incident, which has added a personal layer of intensity to the already volatile feud between the father-son duo.
