German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has strongly criticized the idea of relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and resettling them in Arab countries, calling the proposal “unacceptable.” Steinmeier stated that any decision that disregards or even violates international law is unacceptable, and expressed doubt that such initiatives could lead to productive negotiations between Arab countries and the US.
The German president emphasized that only guaranteeing Israel’s security and the Palestinian right to self-determination can serve as a basis for effective and lasting peace. He also cautioned that ignoring international law and attempting to resolve the conflict through artificial shortcuts are doomed to fail.
Steinmeier’s statement directly contradicts proposals from the US administration regarding the resolution of the Palestinian refugee crisis. The administration has repeatedly advocated for removing Palestinians from Gaza and resettling them in other countries, arguing that this would contribute to peace in the Middle East.
However, the international community, including Germany, has been critical of these proposals, considering them unrealistic and contrary to international law. Steinmeier’s statement further underscores that the Palestinian conflict can only be resolved through dialogue and mutual respect, rather than forced displacement and unilateral solutions.
