Production Officially Underway
Netflix has officially confirmed that production for Grown Ups 3 is underway in New Jersey. The streaming giant announced the return of the franchise, which first debuted in 2010, by sharing a group photo of the returning cast seated together at a dinner table. Adam Sandler, who is reprising his lead role, shared the image on social media with the caption, “We missed you!”
The film is being produced in partnership with Sony Pictures, marking a return to the franchise that became a global box-office success. The original 2010 film, directed by Dennis Dugan, earned more than $270 million worldwide. A sequel followed in 2013, which expanded the ensemble cast to include actors like Andy Samberg and Taylor Lautner.
Cast and Creative Team
The upcoming sequel features a sprawling list of returning stars. Alongside Adam Sandler, the cast includes Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, and Salma Hayek Pinault. Several familiar faces from the franchise’s history are also returning, including Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Meadows, Cheri Oteri, and Nick Swardson, among others.
The project also introduces newcomers to the series, including Julie Bowen, Deon Cole, and Bailee Madison. The film is directed by Kyle Newacheck, who previously helmed the 2025 Netflix hit Happy Gilmore 2. The script is written by Adam Sandler and his longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, who also served as writers on the previous entries in the series.
The Next Chapter
While specific plot details remain largely under wraps, the official logline provided by Netflix offers a glimpse into the premise: “Now that their kids are all grown up, the gang is finally free to go on the ultimate adventure.” This suggests a shift in narrative focus, moving away from the family-centric dynamics of the previous two films toward a new, potentially more expansive journey for the core group of friends.
The production team behind the film includes producers Adam Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Tim Herlihy for Happy Madison Productions. A large team of executive producers, including Sarah Sarandos and Kevin Grady, is also attached to the project. As of now, Netflix has not announced an official release date for the film.
