NASCAR standout Jesse Love is set to join the Cup Series in 2027. Wood Brothers Racing announced Wednesday that the 21-year-old California native will pilot the team’s No. 21 Ford, succeeding Josh Berry.
Love, the 2025 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion, transitions from Richard Childress Racing (RCR), where he established himself as one of the sport’s most promising young drivers. Jon Wood, president of Wood Brothers Racing, stated that the team selected Love for his proven ability to compete for championships and manage high-level expectations.
The move marks a significant change for the oldest active team in the Cup Series, which has operated since 1950. While the team holds a coveted charter, it has faced competitive challenges in recent seasons, securing only three wins since 2011. Wood Brothers Racing currently maintains a technical alliance with Team Penske, a partnership expected to support Love’s development as he steps into a full-time Cup Series role.
Richard Childress Racing issued a statement acknowledging Love’s contributions, noting that the team remains committed to defending its O’Reilly Auto Parts Series title through the remainder of the 2026 season. Love will join the Cup Series grid as part of a new class of rookies, including 23XI Racing’s Corey Heim.
