  • Robinhood is cutting 10% of its workforce, totaling about 290 employees.
  • The restructuring is not due to financial weakness but aims to reduce bureaucracy.
  • The company expects million in one-time restructuring costs for Q2 2026.

Robinhood Markets (HOOD) announced on Wednesday that it plans to eliminate 10% of its full-time positions, impacting approximately 290 employees. The brokerage, which has seen record trading volumes in equities and options throughout June, stated that the decision is driven by a desire to avoid a heavily layered organization rather than financial distress.

CEO Vlad Tenev emphasized that the restructuring is intended to keep the company “lean and highly focused.” Robinhood noted that it plans to utilize advanced technologies, including AI, to improve productivity and execution. The company expects to incur $28 million in second-quarter charges related to severance and benefits but anticipates long-term annual compensation savings that will improve operating margins.

Despite strong revenue growth—up 15% in the first quarter of 2026—HOOD shares have faced pressure, declining 17.5% over the past six months. The move aligns with a wider industry trend of fintech firms, such as Coinbase and SoFi, prioritizing cost controls and operational efficiency to balance growth ambitions in a competitive market.
