Disney+ has officially greenlit a feature-length documentary chronicling the life and career of legendary actress Julie Andrews. Announced on July 22, 2026, the project is helmed by acclaimed director R.J. Cutler, known for his work on Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry and Martha.
The documentary is scheduled to premiere on the Disney+ streaming platform in 2027. It aims to provide a comprehensive look at Andrews’ expansive career, tracing her origins in British vaudeville through her rise as a global Hollywood icon in films such as Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Recent audiences also recognize her voice work as Lady Whistledown in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton.
Director R.J. Cutler emphasized that the film will move beyond the public image of the star. “Most people don’t know the extraordinary challenges she’s had to overcome throughout her life, all of which we delve into in this film,” Cutler stated. According to the production team, the project features rare, never-before-seen archival footage and exclusive new interviews with Andrews herself. Cutler described the process as an intimate look at a figure who has become a “cultural touchstone” for multiple generations.
The film is produced by Cutler’s Sony-backed production company, This Machine. Joining Cutler as producers are Trevor Smith, Elise Pearlstein, Jane Cha Cutler, and Jonathan Ruane, with Mark Blatty serving as executive producer.
