Quick Read

  • Filming for Dutton Ranch Season 2 is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
  • The next six months will focus entirely on the writing process.
  • Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will return as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.
  • The timeline is slower than Season 1, which filmed in August 2025 and launched in May 2026.

Production for the second season of the Yellowstone spin-off series, Dutton Ranch, is officially scheduled to begin filming in early 2027. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, star Kelly Reilly confirmed the production timeline, indicating a more deliberate development phase for the next installment of the Western drama starring Ed Harris.

According to Reilly, who portrays the fan-favorite character Beth Dutton, the creative team is prioritizing the writing process before the cast and crew return to the set. “We’re slated to start early 2027 to film,” Reilly stated, adding that the writers’ room is preparing to convene almost immediately. “I think we’re going to be very much involved in the room, so the next sort of six months is all about writing it.”

This extended preparation period marks a shift in pace compared to the show’s debut season. Filming for the first season of Dutton Ranch commenced in August 2025, leading to its premiere on May 15, 2026. The gap between the first season’s launch and the start of production for Season 2 shows that the franchise is taking a slower, more calculated approach to developing the narrative. Reilly and co-star Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, will both be heavily involved in the upcoming pre-production phase.

While Paramount has not yet announced an official release date for the second season, industry expectations point to a late 2027 or early 2028 premiere. Given the time required for filming and post-production, a late autumn 2027 release would represent the most optimistic timeline if production proceeds without delays. For viewers waiting on the next chapter of the Dutton family saga, the update serves as a concrete marker for the franchise’s trajectory.

The Yellowstone universe continues to expand its global footprint, finding significant success in international markets, including a growing fanbase in the United Kingdom. By focusing on a rigorous six-month writing cycle, the production aims to solidify the story’s foundation, ensuring the spin-off maintains the high-stakes drama that has defined the broader franchise.
