According to reports from Windows Central, the project explores a lightweight codebase, dubbed “Win3,” which shifts away from legacy Win32 application support in favor of web-based technologies and agentic AI.
Core Features and Design
The video details a desktop environment where the traditional taskbar and start menu are replaced by interfaces driven entirely by multi-modal AI inputs. A central feature, “Spaces,” allows users to group applications and websites into persistent buckets, enabling one-click access to complex workflows. The system is designed to run primarily on web apps, utilizing Windows 365 to stream native desktop applications when necessary. This architecture aims to enhance security, battery life, and update speeds by stripping away the overhead of legacy Windows components.
Experimental vs. Reality
While the leaked video showcases a functional prototype, it remains unclear whether “Aion” is intended for commercial release.
