Transport and Station Restrictions
Transport for London (TfL) has implemented a comprehensive series of transport adjustments for the August bank holiday weekend, August 30–31, 2026, to accommodate the Notting Hill Carnival. Officials are advising commuters to plan ahead and avoid the West London area unless attending the event, as significant congestion is expected throughout the festivities.
Several London Underground stations will operate under restricted conditions to manage high foot traffic. Ladbroke Grove station will be closed for the entire duration of the event. Westbourne Park will be entry-only until 11:00 am, while Holland Park will implement a ‘no entry’ policy from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, followed by a full closure. Queensway and Royal Oak are designated exit-only between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm, with Royal Oak closing completely thereafter.
Additional operational changes include Latimer Road, which faces potential short-term closures due to queuing, and Shepherd’s Bush, where ticket-issuing facilities will be suspended and the ‘down’ escalator closed after 4:00 pm. At Kensal Rise, the Chamberlayne Road entrance will close at 6:00 pm, with a queuing system established at the Station Terrace entrance.
Road Closures and Bus Diversions
Extensive road closures will be in effect from 6:00 am on Sunday, August 30, until 6:00 am on Tuesday, September 1. Specifically, Notting Hill Gate will remain closed to all traffic, except buses and pedestrians, between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm on both event days.
Bus networks will see substantial diversions, with services redirected away from the heart of the carnival zone. To facilitate movement, TfL has introduced special limited-stop services, including the 148X to Victoria and Vauxhall, the 7X to East Acton, the 36X to Harrow Road, and the 18X to Stonebridge Park. A limited 23X service to Victoria will also operate on Monday afternoon.
Cycling and Rail Considerations
Micro-mobility options are also affected: Santander Cycles docking stations within the carnival area are suspended from 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, until 8:00 am on Tuesday, September 1. Similar access and parking restrictions apply to dockless e-bike and e-scooter schemes.
Furthermore, National Rail services to and from King’s Cross face disruption from Saturday evening through Monday morning due to planned Network Rail signalling work. With multiple other major events occurring across London—including the All Points East and Reading festivals—TfL urges passengers to utilize the ‘TfL Go’ app and real-time journey planners to navigate the city safely.
